Estranged
Estranged examines a particular kind of absence: being physically present in a place while remaining somehow removed from it. The photographs were made while passing through unfamiliar cities as a traveler, observing people who appeared just as foreign within their own surroundings – though differently so. To travel is to look harder. And in that heightened awareness, something begins to surface again and again: people absorbed elsewhere. In their phones, in their thoughts, in private worlds just beyond reach. Estranged is an inquiry into this state of being – the quiet strangeness of moving through daily life while remaining somehow outside of it: distant from one’s surroundings, from others, and, eventually, from oneself.
First presented at Space Place One Gallery, Nizhny Tagil, Russia, October 2026.
