Your first name, surname, email address, subject line and message. Nothing else, and nothing is asked for that is not needed to write back to you.

That message is sent straight to Erik’s mailbox through Resend, an email delivery service. The website itself keeps no copy: there is no database behind it, no log of submissions and no file on the server. The only copy that persists is the one in Erik’s inbox, and it stays there for as long as he keeps his correspondence.

The legal grounds are that answering an enquiry is a step towards working together, and that a photographer has a legitimate interest in replying to people who contact him.

Like every website, the platform that serves this one records your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time, so the page can be delivered and the service kept secure. Vercel keeps those logs briefly under its own retention and they are not copied anywhere. The legal ground is the legitimate interest in running a working, secure site.

The photographs are served from Sanity’s image network, which sees your IP address when an image loads. And if your browser ever blocks something under this site’s security policy, it may send a short technical report naming the page and the blocked address. Those reports are read only to keep the policy correct, and are kept in the same brief hosting logs.

There are none. No analytics product, no advertising pixel, no session recorder, no chat widget, no third party fonts. That is why you were not asked to dismiss a banner: there is nothing to consent to.

One exception is worth naming plainly. If you press play on a film, the player loads from YouTube (or from Vimeo, for a film hosted there), which may then set storage in your browser under its own privacy policy. Nothing from either player is loaded before you press play, and the YouTube player uses YouTube’s privacy enhanced domain.

Vercel hosts the site: pages are served from its worldwide network, and the contact form and its logs run in Vercel’s US East region. Resend delivers the contact form message and keeps its own delivery records in the United States. Sanity stores the photographs, texts and other content you see here on servers in the United States, and its image network serves them to you; that content is published material rather than anyone’s personal information. Google provides the mailbox where your message arrives, and the YouTube player. Each of these is a US company, so a message from Europe reaches them under the safeguards set out in their own data processing terms. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone else.

You can ask what has been kept about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for its use to be restricted, object to it, or ask for a copy in a portable form. Since the only copy is an email in Erik’s inbox, that usually means asking him to delete a message, which he will do. Write to erikmhadife@gmail.com and you will have an answer within 30 days.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

If this ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, because there is no mailing list.
